In the story, Morticia describes her sister as having gone missing after losing control of her powers as a Raven. This connects with Wednesday’s own challenges in managing her psychic abilities, which caused black tears in Season 2. The Season 2 finale concluded with Morticia giving Wednesday Ophelia’s old journal, which eventually triggered a vision of Ophelia locked in a dark room inside Grandmama Hester’s mansion. Millar explained that Ophelia’s disappearance has created a void in Morticia’s life and many unresolved questions, further stating that her return is expected to hugely impact this family. Gough said that her introduction was always intended to be surprising and to directly set the stage for Season 3.
